Charlotte Blake Alston presents “In the Griot Tradition”, storytelling in the African oral tradition. Through stories, music, costuming and audience participation, she promotes an understanding of our common human experience and tickles the funny bone of each audience member.

David Zucker talking to the audience as a lion.
On Wednesday, January 19, David Zucker visited Marshall School as part of the PTA’s Cultural Arts program. Mr. Zucker brought poetry to life using a combination of acting, mime, vocal gymnastics, and humor. He delighted some of the 1st and 2nd grade students by “performing” poems from A. A. Milne, Ogden Nash, Galway Kinnell among other poets. The excited audience called out missing rhyming words and were entertained by Mr. Zucker’s physical antics. The performance closed with a demonstration of how poetry could be performed to music, first Mozart and then a rap song. The students enjoyed the show so much they demanded an encore. Ask your student to recite the Mr. Zucker’s haiku poem.
