District Summary
The School District of South Orange and Maplewood serves more than 6,400 students in nine schools, including six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. The community and its schools are racially and economically diverse and proudly send more than 91 percent of Columbia High School graduates to college each year.
The district’s mission is to prepare every single one of its students exceedingly well for higher learning in the 21st century. Each student is offered a quality, comprehensive education within a diverse learning community that values academic excellence. As productive members of society, students of South Orange-Maplewood will be responsible, caring, collaborative and ethical. They will also be critical thinkers, problem solvers, effective communicators, both orally and in writing, and lifelong learners.
